The Man on the Pillory The man on the pillory--
facing the crowd
delivers his plea--
sure to be found
guilty of sin--
and later-- placed in
the eye of a noose
the collar-- of dishonor
that would never
let him loose.

He stands-- his hands tied--
behind;
and the tide of the crowd--
he finds
more frightening than--
a bear-- in his den.
His soul filled with terror,
he resolves to find honor
by living a lie
and fooling the eyes--
of those gossips, in-
that God-forsak--en
ocean of smirks and grins.

And the one whose sin--
he more than shared in
displayed her transgression
for all to look on.
Her sanity kept--
his slowly swept--
up by the Puri
